The 2025 IEE-Japan Industry Applications Society Conference was held on Josanjima Campus of Tokushima University from August 19th to 21st, 2025. This was the first time in 25 years that the conference was held in Tokushima, and over 1,300 researchers and engineers from all over Japan participated.
During the plenary session of the opening ceremony (open to the public), President Kawamura of Tokushima University gave an opening address, emphasizing the importance of the role that electrical engineering and industrial applications play in realizing a sustainable society. He also introduced Tokushima University's efforts to integrate multiple fields, such as optical engineering, AI, and information science, through the Program for Forming Japan's Peak Research Universities (J-PEAKS), a project to strengthen and promote regional core and distinctive research universities. He also demonstrated Tokushima University's commitment to bringing together knowledge from both within and outside Tokushima University to create new value.
Next, a special lecture was given by Mr. Higashihara Toshiaki, Director, Executive Chairman, Representative Executive Officer, Hitachi, Ltd., who is a Tokushima University alumnus, in which he spoke about the latest technological trends in the industrial application field and the outlook for social implementation.
It is expected that further developments in the industrial application field will be achieved through the presentation of cutting-edge research results and exchanges between industry, academia and government at this conference.
